VICE-PRESIDENT

Nikki Truskett

Duties: Aids the president in making club decisions with the major focus on the Kilgore to Longview Run. Acts as public relations manager during members' times of special needs such as ordering flowers and initiating phone calls to spread news to other members.

BIO: I have been running for the past eight years, and joined LRC in 1995. I became Vice President in 2000. I have completed five marathons, and enjoy the camaraderie of the running club. Membership in the club has introduced me to many like-minded individuals I am sure I would never have met had we not had running and health in common. The friendships developed on the "long run" are priceless.

CLUB RUNS

Debby & John Ritter

Duties: Maintains schedule of monthly club runs, including hosts and their responsibilities. Keeps track of points earned by members at club runs. Maintains supply of ribbons and brings them to club runs. Orders awards for annual club picnic in September. Writes article by the 15th of each month describing monthly club run for newsletter and includes points and future runs.

Bio: It was Christmas of 1991. The mid-thirtyish (ok...late 30's) couple couldn't have been more removed from any form of athletic ability; and for that matter, had never been inclined to exercise. Debby bought a stair stepper to help with her upcoming New Year's resolution to get in shape. Weighing in at 245 with the bulk proudly carried in his middle, John's exercise program consisted of frequent trips to the refrigerator for beer and snacks. He awoke Jan 1st of 1992 with a massive hangover and a declaration that he was sick and tired of being sick and tired. The following day he started on the stair stepper. By May he was ready for his first run, Marshall Stagecoach Days 4-Mile. His attire was long white socks, heavy knit coaching shorts and black keds. He completed the run and was hooked. Debby completed her first 5K that July at the Firecracker Run in Shreveport. Now, most weekends are spent traveling the Ark-La-Tex to races and running with friends. John has run 6 marathons, including 2 at Boston, and completed the Ironman Florida Triathlon. Fourteen thousand miles later, he currently weighs 165 with 7% body fat. Debby's results are not as drastic, but nine years later, both feel 20 years younger thanks to a commitment to running and the fellowship of the LRC.

NEWSLETTER

Kenna Cook

Duties: Oversees publication of monthly newsletter to inform members of upcoming races, recent runs in which members have participated, and all facets of running. Prints and mails monthly newsletter.

BIO: I started running about 8 or 9 years ago just running around my block and gradually building up my distance. Joining the LRC soon after that because my brother Kevan was a member, my first club run was at Long Park. I won second place in my age group and I was hooked! I would love to run faster, but I don't seem to know how to keep something from hurting every time I try. I have run one marathon, Houston; and will probably run another one, maybe Austin or Chicago. Some of my favorite runs have been with my running buddies, Nikki and Debby. I love running Martin Creek when it hasn't been raining. I really felt like a "runner" when I did a half-marathon in the pouring rain and 40 degree weather. I love the LRC and look forward to seeing the members every month and several times a month at fun runs. We all encourage everyone's efforts and encourage new and old members in their goals.

MEMBERSHIP

Suzanne Dailey

Duties: Maintains list of current members. Regularly checks the P.O. Box for membership and correspondence. Prints the mailing labels for the newsletter. Forwards all payments and bills to the LRC treasurer.

Bio: I was born and raised in Washington, D.C., and moved to Dallas in 1965 for my husband to attend graduate school. In 1971 we moved to Tyler. I joined the Adult Fitness class at UT Tyler in Sept. 1983, and have been there almost every weekday morning between 5:30 and 6:00 AM ever since. I started running a few 5K races about that time with the Azalea as my first 10K. The 25K Trail Run at Tyler State Park in 1995, America's Finest City Half-Marathon in San Diego, and walking the Portland Marathon in 2000 have been a few of my treks. I love the LRC because it includes people of all ages and running ability, and everyone is so friendly. These runners are just a great group of people, many of whom have become special friends.
