ANNUAL PICNIC & BUSINESS MEETING

The LRC hosts an annual picnic and business meeting at the September club run for the election of new officers and the awarding of male and female overall winners for the year as well as male and female age group winners in 10-year increments. Bob Walker allows LRC to host the picnic at his scenic Turkey Creek Farm with its refurbished railroad cars and spectacular view. Members bring food to share and the club provides cold drinks and utensils.

MONTHLY CLUB RUNS

LRC holds a monthly club run on the first Saturday of each month unless there is a conflict with a popular area run or holiday, then the run is held the second Saturday of the month. The runs are hosted by one or two members who determine the distance and the location of the run. Directions are provided in the monthly newsletter. Water and refreshments are provided by the hosts. These are the only runs used in determining the club run points for the members.

MONTHLY NEWSLETTER

A monthly newsletter is printed and mailed to all members in good standing by the newsletter editor. It includes a monthly article by the President and Club Run Director, a tally of the club run points for each participating member, and a list of upcoming runs in the area as well as the next club run. Members are invited to write articles to be included in the newsletter on their favorite running topics.

JULIEANNA PARK CLEANUP

LRC has contracted with the City of Longview to help maintain Julieanna Park by picking up litter on a weekly basis. At the Annual Picnic members volunteer to cover the park cleanup for a month at a time. The list of the member and his month for cleaning is posted each month in the newsletter. Julieanna Park is a favorite running area for LRC so we also ask any member running out there to pick up any unsightly litter they may see on their runs (or after if you are timing yourself). We are very proud of our community involvement and hope that LRC can continue this job well done, but we need willing volunteers...especially in the summer when it is HOT and everyone is on vacation.

BARRY KEIST MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

In memory of Barry Keist, an elite East Texas runner who passed away in 1994 unexpectedly, an account is set up and maintained by the Treasurer for graduating high school seniors going off to college who have been active with LRC or excelled in sports of one kind or another in the area. We need members to bring the student's activities to our attention for the awarding of this scholarship. Each year we award a scholarship to one senior who we feel deserved it by showing the outstanding qualities of sportsmanship demonstrated by Barry Keist. The committee which determines the scholarship is composed of the current LRC Officers and Kathy Koenig. Others who originally formed the scholarship fund include Jerry Gardner and Earl Roberts as personal running friends of Barry Keist.

KILGORE TO LONGVIEW 11 MILE CLASSIC RUN

In March of each year, LRC hosts an 11 mile run starting in Kilgore and running down Highway 31 to Maude Cobb Auditorium in Longview. We average up to 150 runners and get men and women participating from all over the area. The runners can meet at Maude Cobb in Longview and be bused to the starting line in Kilgore, or arrive in Kilgore to start the race with someone driving their vehicle to Maude Cobb in Longview. This is our only money making event hosted by LRC and requires a great deal of work accomplished through the efforts of our members.

FINISH CLOCK & HANDHELD TIMERS

A digital clock and two handheld timers with printouts are available to LRC members for use at area runs if the club is not using them at the time. These may also be rented out to nonmembers for a fee of $50, but arrangements for their return within 48 hours must be made through the President or someone delegated by the President.
